Join the StreetGolf Fun(d)raising Day in Tamboerskloof!

This is an appeal for your support of a fairly unique charity fundraiser planned for the second year running by the Tamboerskloof Homeowners’ Association (THOA). Based on the great success of last year’s Tamboerskloof StreetGolf Day – in which significant funds were raised for the SA Red Cross Society and the Tamboerskloof Homeless Project, we’re giving it another bash! The StreetGolf Day 2006, on Saturday March 22 2008, will again give this vibrant community the opportunity to have fun together as well as raise funds for a worthy cause.

This year our aim is to raise funds not only for our own homeless project and the THOA, but also for our main beneficiary this year, The Homestead, an inner city welfare service focussing on street children.

With the help of local architect Caroline von Broembsen, we hope to involve street children from this organisation in the creation of artworks to be auctioned on the day. The plan is for ongoing art training workshops for these children. Watch the press for more details on this new and exciting part of the StreetGolf project!

Regarding the actual StreetGolf event on 22 March, with local company Scandinavian Construction formally organising the event on behalf of the Tamboerskloof Homeowners’ Association this year, here’s how it will work: We will, like last year, literally be playing golf on a designated course winding through the streets of Tamboerskloof, and using specially designed balls to prevent any damage to people, homes or vehicles (ego’s unfortunately no guarantee!).

Corporate fourballs and public fourballs will share the fun course, culminating in a lunch and auction at our own Cape Milner Hotel of great items (including an eligible bachelor or two!) and getaways. This popular local hangout proved it’s worth as a 19th hole last year! Non-players will obviously be welcome to join us all day at the hotel, where there will be live jazz and lots of (liquid) goodwill flowing! Overall, if last year’s inaugural luncheon and auction are anything to go by, the day promises to be a load of fun for players, spectators and sponsors alike.

To help us make it all happen, we are offering Sponsors wonderful opportunities to get involved. You can either:

1. Sponsor A golf playing team @R1,600.00 – why not sponsor a team from your company?; and/or
2. Sponsor any of the 18 holes/tees @ R1,500 or R2,500 (depending on location), by displaying your name and logo at the specific hole; and/or
3. Donate prizes and items for auction Great opportunity to get your company and branding out there!

Individual members of the public are just as welcome, of course. To participate as a player would cost a mere R100 per round!

Note: All you need is your no 7 iron. Don’t bother bringing any other clubs, unless dragging them around Tamboerskloof is part of your personal fitness programme!

Sponsors will not be disappointed. We once again have the full support of local resident Marcus Brewster’s publicity company, Marcus Brewster Publicity, who is ensuring that we get as much publicity as possible. And the players and celebs, who are showing keen interest in participating, are the people you want to reach – trust us on that. We also hope that the people of Tamboerskloof will participate in their hundreds as marshals and helpers throughout the day.

The event will kick off with the arrival of the VIP’s and the local players at 8 am, to tee off at 9 am. Registration is at the Cape Milner Hotel.
